These classes are for anyone with a Bernina sewing machine. If you purchased your machine from Bear’s Paw Fabrics, they are FREE. If you purchased your machine elsewhere, there is a $75.00 charge per class. This updated Mastery Program for sewing/embroidery machines in Towson has been very well received! All classes are about 2 hours, and of course, the number of classes is dependent on your sewing machine model. Kit fees are needed for some classes. We welcome your suggestions and ideas.

TMC1 – MASTERY 1 – (ALL MODELS) – CARE AND FEEDING OF YOUR MACHINE
FREE if purchased from Bear’s Paw, otherwise a $75.00 class fee
Basic operations – threading, bobbin winding, needle positions, free hand system (if applicable), motor speeds, needle up/down, thread cutters, continuous reverse and proper maintenance. Seaming, zigzag, satin stitch, stitching corners, topstitch/edgestitch, basting, temporary altered stitch memory.
TMC2 – MASTERY 2 – (ALL MODELS) – PRACTICAL STITCHING
FREE if purchased from Bear’s Paw, otherwise a $75.00 class fee
A potpourri of basic stitches and hems – zigzag, stretch and overlock stitches. Hems - blind, handpicked and jeans. Shell edging and rolled and whipped edge.
TMC3 – MASTERY 3 – (ALL MODELS) – BUTTONHOLES
FREE if purchased from Bear’s Paw, otherwise a $75.00 class fee
Buttonhole types, feet, sizing and uses for buttonholes. How do you store your buttonholes in memory? Make buttonhole samples and be introduced to the button sew-on foot. Yes, there really is one!
TMC4 - MASTERY 4 – (ALL MODELS) – DECORATIVE TECHNIQUES

A touch of heirloom using the gathering foot. pintucks, double needle and wing needle samples. Try your hand at piping and review its many uses. See how easy it is to couch threads and why it is so popular.
Kit Fee: $15.00 (includes, double needles, wing needle, Perle cotton, cording, couching thread and fabrics)
TMC5 – MASTERY 5 – BERNINA STITCH REGULATOR (BSR) (AURORA AND ARTISTA BSR MODELS ONLY)
FREE if purchased from Bear’s Paw, otherwise a $75.00 class fee
Kit Fee: $15.00 (includes multiple fabric sandwiches and pattern templates, quilting thread)
Get comfortable with your new, fabulous BSR. Get to know the three soles which come with your machine and proper installation of the foot. Using your needle and thread as a "pencil" begin doodling! Experiment with mode 1 and 2 to find your favorite.
TMC6 – MASTERY 6 – (EMBROIDERY MODEL MACHINES ONLY)

Kit Fee: $30.00 for all three classes (includes stabilizers, threads, fabrics and towel)
Now it’s time to get to the fun stuff! Learn proper attachment of the embroidery module, why we use the gold latch bobbincase and the importance of bobbin thread. Review of the various threads for embroidery and your introduction to the world of stabilizers. What needles to use. What’s the scoop on the sprays. We will introduce you to your new best friend – the Masterhooper (perfect gift)! What do you do with the grids that come with the hoops and how do I mark the placement lines for designs? How many hoops are made for my machine and why? Look at the three folders on the machine and the edit screen for moving designs. Then we will stitch a one color design.
TMC7 – MASTERY 7 - (EMBROIDERY MODEL MACHINES ONLY)

You will stitch a design of several colors showing how to change thread, the purpose of spool caps, using the free hand system and take a look at the multiple spool holder. We will use the edit screen again, load a design, add letters and stitch it out.
TMC8 – MASTERY 8 - (EMBROIDERY MODEL MACHINES ONLY)

We will take a look at embroideries stitched out since the last class, learn more about the edit screen, rotating a design, mirror image, scale up and down, letter arch, sizing and using the USB stick. There will be a question and answer time and hopefully time will permit us to embroider a towel.
TMC9 – STITCH MANIPULATIONS (ARTISTA’S ONLY) - FREE if purchased from Bear’s Paw, otherwise a $75.00 class fee. Your Artista is full of creative possibilities. We will practice using combi-mode, memory/sub-divide, direction stitching, personal program, tensions, screen contrast, messages and signals, creative consultant and tutorial.
TMC10 - MASTERY 10 – (ACTIVAS & AURORAS) – MEMORY FUNCTIONS, ELASTICS & GATHERING
FREE if purchased from Bear’s Paw, otherwise a $75.00 class fee.
Figure out how to access memory, memory capacity, program stitches and edit functions. Play with the alphabets using memory. Work with elastics for waistbands and cuffs and gather using the one and two cord methods.
TMC11 - MASTERY 11 – (ALL MODELS) – QUILTING
FREE if purchased from Bear’s Paw, otherwise a $75.00 class fee
Kit Fee: $15.00 (includes quilt needle, Superior’s MonoPoly thread, quilting thread, sampling of Borders Made Easy, multiple fabric sandwiches)
Practice stippling, hand look quilt stitch, outline and in the ditch stitching. Go over the various stitches in your machine to use for crazy quilting.
TMC12 - MASTERY 12 – (ALL MODELS) – APPLIQUE
FREE if purchased from Bear’s Paw, otherwise a $75.00 class fee
Kit Fee: $15.00 (includes towel, all fabrics, fused pieces, 30wt cotton thread and stabilizer)
Learn three appliqué machine techniques – blindhem, blanket and satin. Take advantage of your Free Hand System and get to know the advantages of the variable width and length functions on your machine. Work on an applique towel with a seasonal theme.
TMC13 – MASTERY 13 – (ALL MODELS) – ZIPPERS
FREE if purchased from Bear’s Paw, otherwise a $75.00 class fee
Kit Fee: $15.00 (includes regular and invisible zippers, decorative thread, coordinating thread and denim fabric)
Learn centered zipper and invisible zipper techniques. Lap zipper techniques will be discussed. You will make a small zipped pouch just to prove to yourself you CAN do it!
TMC14 – MASTERY 14 – (ALL MODELS) – ADVANCED DECORATIVE TECHNIQUES

You have practiced gathering, pleating, pintucks and wing needle application. Now learn how much more there is to these techniques and how you can create exquisite heirloom work, stunning garments, wonderful quilts and clever home accessories. This is a fun and very useful two hour class for any type of sewer. PRE-REQUISITE is Mastery 4 - Decorative Techniques.
TOWSON - BERNINA EMBROIDERY SOFTWARE – MASTERY
These classes will build your software skills, but homework is required in order to understand and keep up with the next class. We will have shorter “refresher classes” from time to time. Take advantage of these classes, as well as, the Bernina Software Sampler Series, The Next Step Series and the “topic” specific classes. The Mastery classes are FREE if you purchased from Bear’s Paw, otherwise a $100.00 per class fee applies.
The 2 hour classes will cover software basics, traveling thru editor, lettering, auto digitizing, quilter and digitizing tools. Homework is required if you want to be successful.
AURORA EMBROIDERY, SERGER & DECO MASTERY CLASSES
