QUILT BINDING BASICS 101

If you've NEVER put a binding on your quilt then this is the class for you! Learn how to measure for your binding, learn to cut straight and continuous binding, how to prep and apply your binding and connect the two loose ends and hand sew binding. You'll learn: How to determine whether you should use straight grain or bias binding How to cut and prepare your binding How to bind using straight grain binding, creating mitered corners How to create lump-free binding corners How to cut continuous bias binding strips How to bind curved and round pieces How to hand stitch bindings to the wrong side of the quilt Please have the supplies cut & ready to work prior to class time. This is a learn and practice piece so you don't have to have pretty fabric.

BEGINNER QUILT - TEXAS TWO STEP - TWO DAY CLASS*

Easy quilt for the beginning quilter. This is a 2-Day class to learn proper piecing techniques for a quilt top. Techniques covered: proper rotary cutting techniques, ruler smarts, accurate piecing and pattern reading. Using the Atkinson Texas Two Step pattern you will make either 9" Texas size blocks to show off big prints or 6" blocks for smaller prints.

BEGINNING FREE MOTION QUILTING

Have you tried freemotion quilting and just can not seem to get the results you want? This class is for you! You will learn all of the basics and beyond to start you on your way to successful machine quilting.

MIDI BAG - Using QuiltSmart printed interfacing panels, you will be making one of the most popular bags at Bear's Paw! The Midi Bag can be completed in class. Perfectly matched seams, easy construction, cute-as-can-be bag using QuiltSmart grid interfacing technique.

FLORAL MENAGERIE BOM

Floral Menagerie features simple and adorable appliqued animals with full size templates included in the pattern. Each block features a different border block which is a great way to enhance your quilting skills. Constructing this quilt involves the use of multiple techniques including applique, Flying Geese, 9 Patch, Friendship Stars, Pinwheels, paper piecing and more. The finished quilt is approximately 72" x 96" while each block is 24" x 24". Our Floral Menagerie top is currently on display at the shop. The first class will be on February 17, 2018 where you will receive your full kit or the first set of blocks. At this first class, you do not need to bring your sewing machine and other sewing tools as this will be an overview and a complete demonstration of how to make the first two blocks, the duck and the elephant blocks. We will meet six times at a cost of $36.00 per month, which includes the class, the pattern, the bonding material, and all materials required to complete the two blocks featured for each class. Additionally the binding fabric will be included in the final kit. For those who would like help to stitch their blocks at the shop, we will arrange a separate time to meet. We will also decide at this class whether we prefer the lecture demo model for the remaining blocks or the comprehensive in class demonstration. A full kit option is also available for the more adventurous, at a cost of $220.00. The full kit also includes fabric for the binding, all necessary fabric, all required stabilizers and the full pattern. The full kit is 10% off if ordered before February 15, 2018, making it $198.00 + tax. Pay at the time of order. Additionally, if you prefer, you may use your own fabric selections. Ask at the shop for the fabric requirements. For those wishing to have their fabric kits shipped, domestic shipping is an additional $4.00/month or $10 for the full kit.

Marty will provide a thorough review of "What's New" in Electric Quilt's newest version 8. If you are new to EQ or are not up-to-date with your EQ skills, this class is for you. Advanced users may consider watching for specific technique classes which will be listed on our website in the near future. Electric Quilt is a large and complex program, so prepare to get a great start using this wonderful quilt design program.

Using Custom Quilt Design in EQ8 you will learn how to arrange blocks and motifs in any way that you desire without using the Electric Quilt presets. Your blocks will not be placed into pre-determined spaces like they are in the other quilt layouts. This will provide you with the flexibility to design a quilt in any way which you desire.
